The Storm Fairy

Digital Manga Inc.
Graphic Designer and Illustrator
I played a key role in the localization of Osamu Tezuka's titles for the American market, ensuring that the content was both culturally accessible and true to the original vision. This process involved carefully adapting text, dialogue, and visual elements to resonate with Western audiences while preserving the essence, themes, and artistic integrity of Tezuka’s work.

Process

Beyond translation, I worked on refining the storytelling elements to maintain authenticity while making them relatable to a new audience. This included adjusting references, language nuances, and design elements to align with American publishing standards. My goal was to create a seamless reading experience that stayed faithful to Tezuka’s legacy while making his works more engaging for a broader readership.

The entire project was designed using Adobe Illustrator for precise vector-based graphics, while Photoshop was utilized for creating realistic mockups and campaign designs, ensuring a polished and visually compelling final presentation.

I worked closely with the marketing team to ensure that the visuals effectively aligned with their market goals and audience engagement strategies. Through frequent feedback loops and targeted testing with a select group of fans, we were able to refine the final designs, ensuring they resonated with the intended audience while maintaining brand consistency. Since this was a Kickstarter campaign, the client faced a tight deadline, requiring a highly efficient execution of all deliverables. To ensure a smooth workflow, I developed a shared production schedule in collaboration with the marketing team, allowing us to stay on track while allocating ample time for feedback and refinements. This structured approach ensured that all assets were delivered on time without compromising quality.

As a result, the design generated strong interest from fans and the community, contributing to the Kickstarter being successfully funded at 168% over our original goal. The limited edition release quickly gained traction, with fans eagerly sharing their excitement online. The high demand also led to the product circulating in the resale market shortly after launch, further solidifying its impact.
